Thunder Bay to host The Dominion Curling Club Championship in 2013

TORONTO, March 28 /CNW/ - The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company announced that the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay will host The Dominion Curling Club Championship in 2013.

The annual championship unites men's and women's teams from curling clubs in each of Canada's provinces and territories to curl in round robin competition, all vying for the honour of being named 2013 Canadian Curling Club Champions.  Playing in this event is an already hard-won honour as each rink must also capture the championship at their provincial or territorial level in order to advance to The Dominion Curling Club Championship.

"The Dominion is dedicated to moving this championship across Canada," says George Cooke, CEO & President of The Dominion. "We received multiple hosting bids and we are pleased that clubs are recognizing this as an opportunity to celebrate club curling across Canada.  The Fort William Curling Club and the community of Thunder Bay will do an exceptional job hosting the club champions."

The Richmond Curling Club in British Columbia is set to host the 2011 championship in November.  In 2012 it will move to the Scarboro Golf and Country Club in Scarborough, Ontario where the club will be celebrating its 100th anniversary and The Dominion will be celebrating its 125th anniversary.

Last year, The Dominion Curling Club Championship was held at the Charlottetown and Cornwall Curling Clubs heightening awareness and raising funds for the Canadian Paraplegic Association of Prince Edward Island. The event awarded the national championship titles to the Alberta women's team from the Lethbridge Curling Club and the Saskatchewan men's team from the Sutherland Curling Club.
